Technological advances in the world of telematics are expected to continue apace, following the claim that miniature in-car cameras could soon be installed to identify the number of potential claimants.
According to Insure The Box chief executive Mike Brockman, the development of a video function to sit alongside the current box technology could be as close as two years away from being a realistic option in a bid to reduce the number of claimants “coming out of the woodwork” at a later date.
He said: "It would be great if you could have some sort of video in the car, which is triggered by the box, because undoubtedly the technology is now there to do that.
“But it’s always good to take things in steps. Three years ago nobody thought telematics would work at all, we are now at a stage where everyone is developing leaner, more sophisticated boxes.
“We do educate customers on the technology and maybe in two or three years they will be ready to have a little camera in the car which will tell you how many claimants there are.”
