Telematics brand Ingenie has welcomed government plans to use technology to tackle spiralling motor insurance premiums.
Last night Prime Minister David Cameron, insurers and the Association of British Insurers discussed a six-point plan to combat premiums including looking at the advantages of telematics.
Ingenie targets young drivers in the 17 to 25 years old. It uses advanced telematics technology, fitted in the car, to assess individual driving styles and adjusts insurance premiums accordingly.
Richard King, founder and chief executive of Ingenie said: “Initial talks have been very positive and we look forward to working alongside the government to develop ways of reducing false whiplash claims, legal costs and the £2bn-a-year costs of compensation. We are committed to bringing costs down and ensuring these savings are passed on to young drivers insured with us.”
He added: “Telematics addresses the heart of the problem of fraudulent motor insurance claims. The technological advancements of telematics mean that Ingenie can monitor driving behaviour.”
